Origin
Qiongqi appears in the Shan Hai Jing as a strange creature on Mount Feng: it is described as ox-like, covered in hedgehog-like hair, with a cry like a barking dog. The text calls it a man-eater. Later bestiaries and folklore reshaped it into a winged tiger-like beast and linked its name with the Four Perils, so its appearance changes across sources.
Appearance
The Shan Hai Jing gives Qiongqi an ox-like form, prickly hair, and a bark-like cry, not the familiar winged feline silhouette of later art. Later traditions add wings, a tiger-like body, and a more predatory presence. This artwork's golden coat, fiery mane and tail, blue-and-gold wings, claws, and pale horn are MythColoring's interpretation of those later traditions.
Legend
Qiongqi's legend grew more elaborate after the Shan Hai Jing. Later stories portray it as a winged creature that flies toward a quarrel, helps the side that is wrong, and encourages further harm.
