What is Ren She?
Origin and Mythology
Ren She is recorded in a Qing-era account preserved in Gezhi Jingyuan by Chen Yuanlong, which cites She Pu (Treatise on Snakes). The text describes a seven-chi creature dark as ink, with a snake's head, body, and tail, human hands and feet, and the ability to stand upright. It is a later folklore record, not a Shan Hai Jing entry.
The old account frames Ren She as a dangerous wilderness encounter: it laughs when it notices a person, but moves slowly enough that someone who hears the warning may escape. It is a compact folktale scene rather than a complete adventure. MythColoring presents the creature as a mysterious traveler of misty water and mountains without adding unrecorded historical events.
Appearance
The source gives Ren She a snake's head, body, and tail, human hands and feet, an upright stance, and an ink-dark color. The warm tan features, orange fins, clouds, and mountain-water setting in this artwork are MythColoring's family-friendly visual interpretation.
Symbolism
Ren She represents transformation, caution, and the unknown within wild places. Its old legend turns sound into a warning and makes awareness a form of protection. Through MythColoring, this later folklore creature becomes a coloring page for exploring mystery with imagination.
